Japanese black ceramic mask, MIROKU BOSATSU
Miroku Bosatsu (弥勒仏), Maitreya in Sanskrit would be a Buddha who would appear in the future, when the teaching of the ancient Buddha would have been lost. Historically the belief in Maitreya is shared by the Theravada and Mahāyāna streams of Buddhism but since more recent schools have taken up this belief.
