Reproduction of the print by Hodo Nishimura, Bijin in an Engawa garden in springtime
There is little biographical information available on the Japanese engraver Hodo Nishimura (西村蒲堂). His birth and death dates are unknown. It is believed that he worked for the publisher Takemura Hideo in Yokohama between 1930 and 1941. He signed his watercolors and some of his woodblock prints with the names "Saito Hodo" or "H. Saito." Most of his works, created in the late 1930s, use the traditional woodblock print technique and were collected by Robert Muller.
